I knew the first time we met that he was a kindred spirit. It's something about the eyes, and the way we move.

Local NCIS stole a case from us when we found out he was a Marine, and they kept hitting a dead end so they asked for some hotshot from DC. They got the hotshot they wanted, too: Tony DiNozzo, all swagger and classic films and handsome sharp smiles. I kept my hand in the case because I'm better at spatter than their guys and they knew it, which is why I got to meet Agent DiNozzo, and give him the grin -- the one that says, I know what you are.

We both figured out who it was pretty early on. There was a guy, and a little girl who got raped, and her dead Marine daddy. We were still looking for proof the guy raped the girl and killed her dad when we both realised it was a race.

Not to catch him and convict him. Oh no. Just a race to find him. A private race. Between Dexter and DiNozzo.

He got there first.

Well, I wasn't far behind, actually.

I walked in when he was elbows-deep in the guts of a living man. I liked DiNozzo; he's got flair, so I let him live even though he was poaching on my territory. He got scared, of course, until I picked up a knife and said, which is pretty snappy if I say so myself, "Mind if I cut in?"

After we finished having our fun, we had a few beers (he brought a cooler). "Rule Fifteen: never drink on the job; wait until after. That's what my boss says," he said to me.

"I like his style," I said. "He teach you how to cut like that?"

DiNozzo shook his head. "Nah. I watch a lot of autopsies. And I have this friend, Abbs. She likes crime scene photos, the gorier the better, she's always got something new to show me. She's seen some of my work. Doesn't know it though."

"You keep a kill count? Souvenirs?"

"Can't afford to." He laughed then. "You know what's funny? I've been accused of murder like...three times. And none of them were ever my hit. They've tossed my place, they've put me in cuffs, they've interrogated me for three murders I never committed. One time they thought I was a biter."

"Are you?"

"Ew, and no," he said. I shrugged. Takes all kinds. "I've killed eighteen scumbags who richly deserved it, but I didn't shoot my girlfriend's dad either. Even if he probably deserved it too. So," he added. "You like blood."

"Yeah. You?"

"I like classic film," he said contemplatively. "So, where do you dump around here?"

"I got a boat. Want me to handle it?"

He lit up with a smile. "Would you? I was worried about that."

"Sure, no problem."

"Hey, listen, I really didn't mean to steal your thunder here. You come up to DC sometime, I'll give you a tour, we'll have some fun."

I gave him my business card.

"You really don't keep any souvenirs at all?" I asked, as we parted ways.

"It's all up here," he said, tapping his temple. "Be seeing you, Dex."

"Seeya, DiNozzo."

Oh man. I can *see* it. And you know, for NCIS, vigilante serial killing would not be much of a stretch. Not at all.

(Oh Gibbs. How do they get away with making you so stealth sketchy? Normal, admirable... whoops, he vigilante killed again. Pay *no* attention to the murder, ladies and gentlemen. And back to the status quo for the next ep.)

[identity profile] sam-storyteller.livejournal.com 2009-02-11 12:38 pm (UTC)(link)
Seriously. Gibbs is the paragon of all that is noble and good in law enforcement DON'T LOOK AT THE VIGILATE KILLING okay you can look back now.

If he ever found out what Tony was doing, he'd probably buy him a special knife and ignore the rest for all of time.

But the slaps to the head would get just a little bit harder on certain cases.

By the way, Abby knows.

[identity profile] kcracken.livejournal.com 2009-02-11 01:47 pm (UTC)(link)
Of course Abbs knows. Why else would she have such a huge crush on Tony? He's normally not her type... until now.

[identity profile] sam-storyteller.livejournal.com 2009-02-11 02:02 pm (UTC)(link)
Poor Tony's at such a disadvantage though. If someone hurt Abby, he'd just love to eviscerate them -- but Gibbs would get there first, and all he'd be able to do was defile the remains.

[identity profile] kcracken.livejournal.com 2009-02-11 02:12 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, not really. I think Gibbs would be torturing the guy for a very long time. He would want the person who hurt Abby to hurt a thousand times more. I remember that look on his face when he thought something had happened to her when she was being stalked.

[identity profile] sam-storyteller.livejournal.com 2009-02-11 02:26 pm (UTC)(link)
Or the time she was kidnapped, or the 18dozen times they thought someone was in her lab :D Gibbs is so fond of the clean kill, though. Maybe he'd let Tony do the torturing and then make sure he got to do the execution...

[identity profile] doozer7787.livejournal.com 2009-02-11 03:24 pm (UTC)(link)
Can you write this please? Please? Because it would be awesome. And it might be because I'm a hardcore Gibbs/Abby shipper and I think it's totally true, but also because you write amazingly well.

Back to class now...

[identity profile] sam-storyteller.livejournal.com 2009-02-11 03:27 pm (UTC)(link)
Gibbs/Abby represent! Me too :D It's the way whenever he's in her lab he's all, hi there, let me get way into your personal space and rub up against you while you tell me fun sciency things...

[identity profile] doozer7787.livejournal.com 2009-02-11 03:32 pm (UTC)(link)
Seriously! I get into these long, silly debates with my room mate about this. She is totally against it, but, Hello. Season one he actually smacks her ass. And the personal space thing. Oh, Gibbs/Abby, how I love you.

You writing Gibbs/Abby fic would pretty much make my life right now, Sam. The fact that at this point it would seriously be that easy is kind of sad, but true.

[identity profile] sam-storyteller.livejournal.com 2009-02-11 03:36 pm (UTC)(link)
He does quite the assgrab in S5 too, or possibly early S6 -- the episode where she's on rollerskates, he bodychecks her a little to stop her and BAM ASSGRAB :D

I have a whole theory of shipping on NCIS, which includes secondary and tertiary ships. I'm just waiting to articulate them until I've finished S6. They include Tony-->Gibbs, Tony/McGee, McGee/Abby Best Gay Friendship, Ducky/Gibbs Past Tense, and Ziva Makes Bad Choices With Strangers. :D

Speaking of shipping, last night, when Tony was trapped at Gibbs's desk while Gibbs was rummaging in it -- he DID shove his head into Tony's crotch for a minute, I didn't imagine that, right?

Gibbs. Such a tease.

(I do have a half-assed Gibbs/Abby started, but I'm not sure where it's going yet.)

[identity profile] doozer7787.livejournal.com 2009-02-11 03:41 pm (UTC)(link)
Ack! Clicked wrong button. Probably not good to make the face/gesture combination I just did while pretending to pay attention to social psychology, but whatever.

I actually haven't seen last nights episode yet, but it's on the agenda for today. I'll certainly look for the crotch thing when I watch it later, though.

I have slight issues imagining Gibbs with a guy, but that could because of the epic right that is Gibbs/Abby (in my mind at least). I'm totally with the rest of your theory though.

I wish I could find a way to will your story into knowing where it's headed.

[identity profile] sam-storyteller.livejournal.com 2009-02-11 03:48 pm (UTC)(link)
See, I think I've just conflated Gibbs with a very stonefaced version of Jack Harkness -- up for anything, but only with the right person. So he is epically into Abby and they play a lot of dirty games together and she's okay that he sometimes brings Tony around because wow, Tony and Gibbs, right? And poor Tony would just keep pining otherwise. Even though Abby and Gibbs both know that Tony and McGee are pretty much destined to be together.

And Ducky is totally the ex that he eventually became best friends with. :D Which is why whenever anyone's having issues with Gibbs, HAVE YOU NOTICED, they go to Ducky. :D

[identity profile] doozer7787.livejournal.com 2009-02-11 03:55 pm (UTC)(link)
I guess in that sort of situation, I can see it. You're so right about the thing with Ducky, which might be what sort of sells me on it. Ducky does seem to know the most about him out of everyone on the team, even more than Jenn, who, you know, was canonically with him. The Abby/McGee best gay friend thing is so right. My room mate is all about the two of them, but it really is a gay best friend thing. Think McGee pines for Tony? That could be interesting.

You know you need to write about all of this, Sam.

[identity profile] sam-storyteller.livejournal.com 2009-02-11 04:02 pm (UTC)(link)
So much fanfic, so little time.

Canonically Ducky knew Gibbs a lot longer than Jenny did, and I think they've just plain shared more life experiences than anyone else, and the only real way to learn about Gibbs is to be around him because god knows he never TELLS PEOPLE anything.

I'm convinced that Abby and McGee broke up because he realised he was gay and she's the first person he came out to (nobody officially knows, but come on). I don't think McGee pines for Tony, he knows him too well -- I don't think McGee realises that Tony's really into him. TONY doesn't realise it because Tony believes himself to be straight, straight, straight. I suspect Abby will have to point it out to McGee, who will somehow have to induce Tony's gaypiphany.

SO MANY FAAAAANFICS TO WRITE....

[identity profile] doozer7787.livejournal.com 2009-02-11 04:50 pm (UTC)(link)
This is sounding better and better... I can imagine McGee being nervous about telling Abby, but her being totally cool about it.

Not to bring another fandom into this, but if we had Dr. Horrible's freeze ray we could stop the world, adding more time and thus be able to write all the fan fics ever. Of course, this requires a freeze ray actually existing in real life which is a bit complicated.

The fan fic, Sam, it's eating my brain alive. How is it possible to get any work done now?

[identity profile] sam-storyteller.livejournal.com 2009-02-11 04:57 pm (UTC)(link)
My favourite scene that I have not written yet is the one where Abby tries to "help" DiNozzo realise that he's gay, and somehow makes it worse, and McGee fires her. Can't you see him? "Abby, you are so fired!"

Also, Tony's realisation, a few hours after he has the gaypiphany, that "Then...I have a huge crush on Gibbs, don't I." "Yup." "Oh my god, does he know?" "Yup."

[identity profile] doozer7787.livejournal.com 2009-02-11 05:01 pm (UTC)(link)
....This. It must be had. It's so perfect.

Seriously, I'm speechless at its awesome.

It's hard to argue against the Tony/McGee thing (not that I am trying, because I'm not) when a few episodes ago Tony PRETENDED TO BE A GIRL online to go out with McGee. I really want to see them, now.

[identity profile] sam-storyteller.livejournal.com 2009-02-11 05:03 pm (UTC)(link)
I DIED LAUGHING when Tony admitted it was him. Also the infamous wrestling-in-the-therapist's-office scene.

"Special agents McGee and DiNozzo."
"Very special agents."

[identity profile] doozer7787.livejournal.com 2009-02-11 05:06 pm (UTC)(link)
I love this show, and this fic-that-shall-be.

I can kind of see Ziva and Tony together at some point. The sheer amount of flirtation that goes on there is ridiculous. And he totally gets jealous when she goes off to Israel for a vacation and won't tell him if she's seeing someone there.

Totally agree on Gibb's attitude.

And Abby totally DOES know... I can see it now...

Ack, I don't have time to steal people's plot bunnies and write fic right now, lol.

[identity profile] sam-storyteller.livejournal.com 2009-02-11 02:27 pm (UTC)(link)
Abby totally figured it out the third or fourth time Tony seemed to really enjoy looking at certain crimescene photos with her...:D

(This all explains why they were so frantic to get Tony off the carrier while he was Agent Afloat. Hard to cover up a vigilante killing on a carrier!)

[identity profile] kateri-e.livejournal.com 2009-02-11 05:02 pm (UTC)(link)
OMG! That so works, and why Abby and Gibbs were so sure he didn't kill the legless chick or the Frog..... Tony is MUCH smoother than those murders.

[identity profile] grey-bard.livejournal.com 2009-02-11 04:48 pm (UTC)(link)
"You sure they're guilty DiNozzo?"

"Yeah, boss."

"Good"

Then he'd pat Tony on the shoulder, and the next week Tony would find a special knife waiting for him in his desk.

[identity profile] sam-storyteller.livejournal.com 2009-02-11 04:50 pm (UTC)(link)
See, this is why Tony gets to keep all the Gibbs!Medals.
