[identity profile] satora-chan.livejournal.com 2005-08-17 09:15 pm (UTC)(link)
You have Bolero on your soundtrack.

...

There are no words to how much I love you right now.

[identity profile] sam-storyteller.livejournal.com 2005-08-18 02:13 pm (UTC)(link)
*bows* Bolero and Pachabel's Canon in D are the only classical music I like enough to own on mp3, other than some assorted Aaron Copeland. :D

Interesting note: "Sing Sing Sing" wasn't the song in PoA. It was a John Williams song made for the movie 1941 called "Swing Swing Swing". This song was also used in the X-Files episode "Triangle", which is why my Phile best friend and I squealed in shock and joy when Lupin fired up the magical phonograph.

Or, y'know, that's what my research tells me. And finding a version of "Swing Swing Swing" has so far proven impossible. Woe.

...I have a song labeled Swing Swing Swing, by Glenn Miller, curiously enough. I don't have the DVD and it's been a while since I saw the movie, so I really am not sure, but my friend swears this is the song. Would you like me to send it to you (for further clarification and with no criminal intent, naturally)?

Hey - Marc Broussard! I just discovered him about three weeks ago and have been listening to his album in my car! There are a couple of tracks I skip over, but most of his stuff is really good - "Home" gives me chills every time I hear it - and his songs are very singable, too (not that I can hit any of those low notes). I think my Southern roots make me genetically predisposed to like this kind of music - especially when there are banjos involved.

On an unrelated note, have you ever seen the video for "The Scientist?' You can view it on iTunes - the end just gives you chills.

I'm off to go and have a listen to "Aside," if I can find it...

If you can't find it, reply and I will YSI it. I'm all about spreading love for The Weakerthans!

Sam, you made my day by including that song on the soundtrack! :D

Oh my god...someone who actually knows who Merril Bainbridge is! I have had such a hard time persuading my British friends that she actually exists!
Good choice of songs though, and if I didn't have the majority of them I would require a download.
Merril-squeeage!

[identity profile] eyesaintmoving.livejournal.com 2005-08-18 01:46 am (UTC)(link)
...I had her tape when I was seven, god, looking back on it I can't believe what I was singing!

[identity profile] wtfbrain.livejournal.com 2005-08-18 02:24 am (UTC)(link)
For files less than 100MB, you can use Megaupload, where the downloads are unlimited and don't expire. Some people have problems with MU, though, for some strange reason.

[identity profile] wtfbrain.livejournal.com 2005-08-18 02:25 am (UTC)(link)
Also, this is really cool! I'd lost the link to the SH soundtrack, but some helpful soul provided the link in the comments above, so I can finish putting that playlist together...

[identity profile] kismeteve.livejournal.com 2005-08-18 02:59 am (UTC)(link)
Beenie Man and Dan Bern? Oh, I love this. It took me months to get "Home" out of my head, and now...dammit. ;)

[identity profile] booklady.livejournal.com 2005-08-18 03:44 am (UTC)(link)
They do delight the senses! I loved the Stealing Harry soundtrack, and this one looks to be just as good. Are you doing this for all your fics? (In your copious spare time from writing and real life, obviously.)

[identity profile] sam-storyteller.livejournal.com 2005-08-18 04:08 am (UTC)(link)
Nah, I just do it for the big ones. I have one for LC years one and two, but it contains spoilers so I can't post it yet.

[identity profile] behindblue-eyes.livejournal.com 2005-08-18 04:49 am (UTC)(link)
Ooooooh. I have a thing for soundtracks (and the tremendously awesome fics that go with them).

Can't wait!

[identity profile] cassyl.livejournal.com 2005-08-18 05:43 am (UTC)(link)
What an excellent bunch of music. I'm glad I'm not the only person who compiles soundtracks to their own work. I'm also glad this soundtrack features K's Choice and the Weakerthans, groups who I think are hugely underappreciated. Great choices!

[identity profile] sluggirl.livejournal.com 2005-08-18 10:14 am (UTC)(link)
This is so great! I found all of them on Limewire except Tillman County, but I will keep looking.

[identity profile] angelodimusica.livejournal.com 2005-08-21 02:02 am (UTC)(link)
Wanted to thank you for sending out the link to download the soundtrack. It was an excellent compilation and great to listen to.

I'm glad you enjoyed it!

[identity profile] lamiael.livejournal.com 2005-08-21 09:48 pm (UTC)(link)
I believe the lyric for 'Hallelujah' is /the holy dove was moving too/, but other than that, great soundtrack! :D

[identity profile] sam-storyteller.livejournal.com 2005-08-21 09:49 pm (UTC)(link)
I thought it was holy dove, too, but it really clearly ends on a K in that particular cover. It's a subject of much debate :D

It's scary how much Aside fits with this story. Almost as scary as how much High and Dry fits with Stealing Harry.

[identity profile] kannnichtfranz.livejournal.com 2005-08-24 04:30 am (UTC)(link)
I was looking up "Who Got The Hooch" lyrics (while procrastinating from packing) and found that it seems to be by a group called "Everything" and not by Everlast.

Also, there appears to be a very dorky video. I'm amused by the costumes about halfway through. (They have masks! Sort of.) And the pancakes, if that's what they are, at the beginning. :D Warning: obnoxious ads on both sites and I could only view with IE.
http://www.mtv.com/bands/az/everything/artist.jhtml
http://theonenetwork.com/music_videos/everything/771/hooch.html

Also, I'd like to know what it is they're actually saying in "King of the Dance Hall" when it sounds like they say "Bist du auch verliebt?" in perfect German. Lyrics archives are not making it clear to me. On the bright side, I finally found the Batman line in there. ;)

[identity profile] sam-storyteller.livejournal.com 2005-08-25 04:11 pm (UTC)(link)
Thanks for the links! And for the proper attribution. That house party at the end is the reason I chose it to represent Lupin's "pack" in the first place -- I love that scene.

As for the Dance Hall song...I don't think ANYONE knows. :D I found the line you mean, though, and I think it means, essentially, "She knows how to fit with me" ("Miss Know how fi dweet" is the line itself)

Excellent soundtrack - I had to wait until I was back home to hear it. One of the disadvantages to being on the road for two months. Thats one of thee curses of being in theatre. But great soundtrack almost as good as Jumperkids soundtrack to Stealing Harry. Can't wait to hear a v. 2 to CC. Have a great Holiday.

[identity profile] sam-storyteller.livejournal.com 2005-10-20 08:25 pm (UTC)(link)
Thanks! I'm glad you enjoyed it. I had a lot of fun making it -- and I think I will need to have a Version Two :D

Theme for Ellis Graveworthy - Rod Stewart - Forever Young

*snort* Well that kills the image of that song that I got from the diaper commercial with the cute baby animals with their mammas.

I love that you have the Simon and Garfunkle version of Hazy Shade of Winter. I went on an 80s girl music download binge a few months ago (Lorelai music), got the S&G version by accident, and decided I liked the more folky version over the sterile electric 80s sound.

I haven't heard it yet, but the a capella Save Tonight might be Penn 6, Wiffenpoofs, one of those college groups.

thanks much for uploading this! I'l dl when I'm back on my desktop computer.

Uhm, any chance you could upload the SH st? *kisses*

[identity profile] sam-storyteller.livejournal.com 2005-11-12 03:14 am (UTC)(link)
Well, S&G originated the song, so I suppose perhaps they understand it better. I've heard the 80s version of well, and while I like it, it seems a bit too...badass. :D

I was thinking possibly Save Tonight was by Off The Beat, but I can't be sure....

Have just finished listening and am very impressed. I know so little about modern American music (being a baba now; and living out of the country) but I really enjoy your selection.

Except now I'm gnawing my fingernails again over the ending to CC.

Arigato!

Love the soundtrack, thanks for uploading! However, 'Son of a Preacher Man' is actually by Dusty Springfield. I can easily see how she sounds like Janis Joplin, though :)
