Hiya! To answer your questions:

Does Constantine really want to burn the book, or just return it to Lucien, or what?

Can't say. Twould spoil the surprise :D

Is Lucien kind of like Dream of the Endless?

Lucien is from the same universe. He is the librarian of Dream's library.

What kind of a song did Lucien ask Constantine for, as the price of the hymn?

That's just a pun Constantine used. Lucien owed Constantine, so he probably didn't have to pay at all. Constantine was just making a joke because the hymn WAS a song.

Was the illustrated volume part of the treasure the map led to? (If so, how did the old Pirate get hold of a dream volume?)

Again, that'll be in future chapters. In Peter Wimsey's canon, strictly speaking, there were no books in the treasure chest. I've added those as something that the "official" story didn't tell.

Why are the dream books dangerous?

You'll see. :D

Why would Lucien be willing to give up the text volume, if he wants the illustrated volume returned? (Or is that another lie? Is the text volume the one that's god knows where?)

Yes -- Lucien doesn't have the text volume, it's missing entirely. But Constantine needs the cooperation of the other two, and he knows that with their help he can find it. :)

Why would Lord Death want the text volume, if he's so uncomfortable with the illustrations?

Because he's a book collector :D he wants his set to be complete.

Hope these helped -- glad you're enjoying the fic!
