Unfortunately, it was a journal article in Jstor and I no longer have Jstor access, nor did I save the article. :/ My apologies. I know that I traced it back to Jstor from a Neil Gaiman comic -- the black egg of the phoenix is mentioned in one of the Sandman issues.
