Well, others have remarked on Sirius not being recognised by the professors, but remember that it's been twenty years for them, and they have the idea of "Sirius Black is dead" firmly implanted in their heads.

I think it's much more likely they'd recognise that he looks like a Black, hence Slughorn mentioning it. I'm sure there were all sorts of Black by-blows running around...*grins*
