Oh, I got that impression too. It's one of the major things people "know" about fandom -- that there are a bunch of people out there who truly believe that R/S was subtextually coded into the third through fifth books. JKR has never been comfortable with it -- which is her right, really, she is their creator -- so she took steps to "fix" the assumption. At least, that's what I think :D
