... Pardon me, but I can't allow a statement implying that the term LGBTQ is "sensationalized" to pass by unanswered.
Lesbians, gay men, bisexuals who are "out" about their sexuality, transgendered and genderqueer individuals are explicitly subject to hate crimes, murdered, told they are damned in the eyes of the Abrahamic God, and openly discriminated against in the job, housing and political spheres. Homosexuality was not removed from the DSM until 1986, and non-standard gender identity still remains in the DSM under the term "Gender Identity Disorder". Only very recently have any depictions of queerness not associated with sniggering, death, suicide and murder begun to show up in the media.
We are an oppressed, marginalized group who have been fighting for our rights for at least a century. I would not call claiming our identity and our rights as "sensationalized."
On the other hand, demisexuality, as you describe it, has been praised, encouraged and held up as a model for mature, healthy romantic and sexual relationships since the dawn of civilization. YOU ARE ALLOWED TO MARRY IN EVERY STATE IN THE USA AND EVERY COUNTRY IN THE WORLD. NOONE HAS EVER DENIED YOU THE RIGHT TO ADOPT CHILDREN, OR EXPLICITLY STATED THAT A CHILD RAISED IN YOUR HOME WILL GROW UP EMOTIONALLY DAMAGED.
I suggest you check your privilege in this regard.
