Well, Ianto has a lot of advantages ... his personal world was pretty much destroyed but Lo's cultural one was, if you presume that his homeworld was more or less ruined by the attack. And we have no idea what kind of actual, personal support Lo got in his colonial troop. Though, Ianto ... really, he didn't get any support (as far as canon reveals) either.
You know what's strange about this story for me? For some reason I can't yet parse, I am very weirded out by the shirt 'collars' -- to the point I find them viscerally kind of creepy. I don't know why.
