I think the different take on this is really because I didn't actually look at it as a post-Countrycide fic -- I accidentally wrote "post-Cyberwoman" in the original summary, which is pretty telling. It's not really about the trauma of Countrycide except as a trigger. It's more about examining how Ianto moved so quickly from naked hatred in Cyberwoman to hesitant affection by They Keep Killing Suzie, which is only a four-episode arc. I think Countrycide really just totally kicked him to pieces, which is what allowed him to open to the team at all.
